Postcards from Provence: Avignon

April 25, 2012. I'm back from Provence. I took this photograph in Avignon one morning as I was crossing a square filled with cafes and restaurants. This young woman was sitting at a table and caught my eye. She looked so glamourous in the soft sunlight. I'm always very hesitant about taking strangers pictures and even though I really wanted to take the shot I continued to walk but something told me I'd always regret it so I got over my apprehension and quickly took one photograph of her. At this point I no longer had an unobstructed view of her. There were strong winds blowing gale force that day, the "Mistral" as the French call it and the woman was sitting behind a glass screen to protect her from the wind, the glass screen also reflected a couple strolling through the square. At first I was unhappy with the distraction of the reflection but the more I look at it the more I like it and think that the reflection adds to the interest of the composition.
